49% MF and 51% SOB - Lemmy The Movie

Lemmy - The Movie

So, this also has very little to do with animation - but I guess I am in a mood. Let's just call it "off-topic Monday" because I have a 3500 frame playblast that is taking forever and I am sitting here surfing round da net while the computer make pictures!

So, I just saw Helmet at the Malibu Inn on Friday and it's no secret I am a metal head. I cannot wait for the Lemmy movie!

www.imotorhead.com announced 2009 will bring us “Lemmy The Movie”, like that title says, the movie will be about the God-Father of heavy music, Lemmy Kilmister.

Lemmy’s story is about to move from the concert hall to the big screen. Tentatively titled “Lemmy”, the documentary movie promises fans more access than ever before to Kilmister’s life, and includes interviews with past and present bandmates and such peers/admirers as Slash, Dave Grohl, the Clash’s Mick Jones, Alice Cooper, Steve Vai and wrestling superstar Triple H.

Directors/producers Greg Olliver and Wes Orshoski are shooting the movie on a combination of HD video and super 16 mm film. “Lemmy” is planned for release in 2009 and a teaser clip is already available at http://www.lemmymovie.com/

Some other Motörhead news, the band started the recording of the “Kiss of Death” follow up earlier this year. Drum tracks have been recorded in Dave Grohl’s studio.

MTV Asian - Ben Hibon and Code Hunters

I talked about Ben Hibon before on this blog. He directed the Heavenly Sword trailers and now he teamed up with Stateless Films and Blinkink to create MTV Asia's weekly film show called MTV Screen. The initial idea changed from ‘short film’ to ‘branding package’ for the MTV Awards show. Very smart concept...using the 1,000 fans path.

The animation is just Okay, but the styles, design and look of the short film is really different and interesting. Check out Code Hunters for yourself.

Son Of Rambow - MAKE BELIEVE NOT WAR!

I got a press release today from Paramount about their new movie Son of Rambow. I dedicate this posting to every storyteller and independent filmmaker out there. This looks like great fun and I cannot wait to see it! Screening times are listed at the bottom.

Submit your own original short film about anything. Literally, anything! Be creative and have fun with it. The folks over at Hammer and Tongs will be judging the videos and the winning submission will have their short film placed in the Special Features section of the Son of
Rambow DVD. Son of Rambow opens in theaters on May 2.

SON OF
RAMBOW is a hilariously fresh and visually inventive take on friendship, family, film heroes and the death-defying adventures of growing up in the video age. The story takes place in 1980s Britain, where young Will Proudfoot is raised in isolation among The Brethren, a puritanical religious sect in which music and TV are strictly forbidden. When Will encounters his first movie, a pirated copy of RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD his imagination is blown wide open. Now, Will sets out to join forces with the seemingly diabolical school bully, Lee Carter, to make their own action epic, devising wildly creative, on-the-fly stunts, all the while hiding out from The Brethren.

When school popularity finally descends on Will and Lee in the form of,
oui, the super-cool French exchange student, Didier Revol, their remarkable new friendship and precious film are pushed, quite literally, to the breaking point.

Filmed in a creatively mad-cap, homemade style with a mostly amateur cast and a wry, comic-tinged nostalgia, creative visionaries Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith, a.k.a. Hammer & Tongs (HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY), manage to capture both the agony and the giddy ecstasy of a camcorder childhood with humor, poignancy and a rousing dose of cinematic panache.

Rating: PG-13
Running Time: 96-minutes

WESTWICK Biography

An emerging young British actor trained at The National Youth Theatre in London,
Westwick can currently be seen as "Chuck Bass", the overly confident and sexy bad boy on the Warner Bros. Television/CW show Gossip Girl. This new hit series from The O.C.'s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage is based on the tremendously popular book series about privileged teenagers who attend an elite private school in New York City.

Westwick was recently seen in two high profile features. He played the role of "Alex" opposite Clive Owen and Julianne Moore in Alfonso Cuarón's Children of Men for Universal. Westwick was also seen as "Zoran" opposite Jude Law, Juliette Binoche and Robin Wright Penn in Anthony Mighella's Breaking and Entering for the Weinstein Company and Miramax.

Westwick will also soon be seen in Son of Rambow, an independent film directed by Garth Jennings (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.) The film premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, causing quite a buzz. Westwick plays "Lawrence", a bully and surrogate father figure to his devoted younger brother.

Westwick will also soon be seen in 100 Feet, a supernatural thriller written and directed by Eric Red. Starring alongside Famke Janssen and Bobby Cannavale, Westwick plays "Joey", a handsome Brooklyn delivery boy who delivers groceries to Janssen's character who is under house arrest. It is not long before they begin a heated affair.

MAKE BELIEVE NOT WAR!

Walll*E Trailer

Anyone who reads this blog knows I love Pixar's storytelling. I have favorites, but for me - every single one of their films has created that "hold-your-breath-lump-in-your throat" moment lacking in most animated films (no matter what the medium) for years.

Well, now I have discovered another talent the folks at Pixar have. They are masters at showing you something and getting you excited about it when they got nuttin' to show. The very idea that this story from Pixar will the last that
Joe Ranft has contributed to is so sad. And yet, this little robot is so damn cute.

New Surf's Up Trailer

I am so excited about this movie. I wasn't a big fan of Open Season (except for those crazy bunnies!), but Surf's Up has won my heart. Even though penguins seem to be the trend in animation today...SPA is kicking butt from what I can tell with this movie. Finally a bunch of characters that hold their own personality, character design and body language. Each penguin has a style all his own through its design, weight, hair and persona. I just love the one with his hair covering his face like a sheep dog...each character reminds me of guys I used to surf with!

I can see old surfing buds of mine in the eyes of these characters with their droopy lids, crossed eyed stares and carefree attitudes. Even the big guy reminds me of a big kahuna who used to ride with us every once in a while when he took a day off his day job - uni diving. I really hope they have a "shaper" character that can't talk well and coughs a lot because he has inhaled so much fiberglass...oh wait...their boards are wood - oh well!

The chicken reminds me of this crazy guy who used to ride with us called Pepper...I wonder what happened to Pepper? Pepper - you out there?
