Dinorider

another animation workshop short...
I just love this one too!

An animated short film by: Peter Lopes Andersson

STORY:
A kid with a pent-up anger and a dinosaur in his pocket gets fed up with adults. A rock n´ roll animation short about not loving your neighbour.

I have a friend working on a new animated show for MTV.  Evidently, MTV is bringing back Beavis and Butthead and developing some new shows for their animated segments like they used to have in the 80's.  This piece would fit into that bit nicely.  I encourage the filmmakers/animators to submit!

This school is not only teaching animation, but they are teaching film making!  I do not question why it was animated and not live action, like I do so many animated movies today with more adult themes.  LOVE IT!

Salma

Another great animated short from The Animation Workshop in Denmark -
http://www.animwork.dk

Bachelor film project 2011 from The Animation Workshop.

Story
Salma is a film about a girl living in a land recovering from war. One day her father dies in a cluster bomb accident. This tragic event shrouds her mind and leaves her desperate and lost in a world she does no longer recognize.

By: Anders Friis Christiansen, Martin Sand Vallespir, Kirsten R. Grann, Michael Nielsen, Astrid M. Lauridsen, Rikke Skovgaard

The experimental nature of the work I have seen so far come out of this school is so refreshing.  Everything the school produces also looks different, the storytelling goes beyond intentions for a young audience or just gags... there is real meat in there - a message!  I also love how they push the boundaries of what animation can be... rather than a repeat cookie cutter of what commercial animation is today.  Love it!

"The Black Mamba" Directed by Robert Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez directs Danny Trejo at The Crippler, Bruce Willis as Mister Suave, and Kanye West as The Boss in a Nike Basketball spot based around a pitch for a film about Kobe Bryant’s alter-ego The Black Mamba.

ummm, wow...

this one made my art blog too, cuz its just so damn good!
Warning:  it's "kinda" violent.

“As long as anyone can remember, the coming of The Undertaker has meant the coming of death. Until one day the grim promise fails and tension builds as the God fearing townsfolk of Backwater wait for someone to die.”

I am so impressed, I decided to post the director's reel here too.

Superman Classic

A Robb Pratt traditionally animated fan film that combines
classic elements from Superman through the ages.

Thought of You

Gorgeous lines of action by Ryan Woodward. This just shows you how important reference is... but to not be a slave to it and to embellish it and heighten the entertainment with your artistry to create something really beautiful.

Wisdom Teeth - Don Hertzfeldt

THIS IS A PAIN OF UNREASONABLE PROPORTIONS.

seriouslym this is probably the most disturbing of all Hertzfeld's.
He is the master of how long he can push a moment.
...glad he is back.

American Movie

1999′s American Movie, directed by Chris Smith

It's hard to watch, but you just can't stop...
I give him this much... He finished the film.
This is more than most of us can say working on our own projects.

American Movie tells the story of Mark Borchardt, an aspiring filmmaker living in Milwaukee. With the help of his best friend, the endlessly entertaining burnout Mike Schank, and various other friends, family members, and amateur actors, Borchardt attempts to finish his latest feature, the short horror film Coven.

All is not well, of course, and Borchardt’s life. A high-school drop out, he is mired in debt. His relationship with his ex-girlfriend and mother of his three children is strained and he has developed a bit of a drinking problem. And while he works hard at film-making and appears fairly knowledgeable, his ability to plan and manage his project is suspect. Even his own family have their doubts that Mark will be able to finish the film, his only support coming from his wealthy Uncle Bill who, in his old age, seems confused by his surroundings more often than not.

And yet they make for a cast of likable characters. Mark most certainly has his own personal demons to work through but Smith has no trouble letting him win over the audience with his can-do attitude. Uncle Bill, for all his rancor, does genuinely care for Mark and some of the most touching scenes are between these two. And of course there is Mike, a man whose mind is so ravaged by drugs and alcohol that is almost incoherent, yet whose loyalty and devotion to his friend is almost absolute.

It all amounts to the quintessential American story, the myth that has for so long symbolized this nation; a tale of hard work and passion bordering on obsession, of perseverance over adversity. In this way even the most lowly individual can make of themselves a success. In the same way, it is also a story of class. In stark contrast to Chris Smith’s middle-class background and film school degree Mark’s dream project Northwestern is told distinctly from his point of view from a working class family in the Midwest. His film is set against a backdrop of dilapidated building and rusty cars. “That’s what it’s all about,” he says “rust and decay.”
Despite these seemingly gloomy outlook, Mark remains unswayed in his decision to make movies. It is this almost delusional tenacity that lies at the center of American Movie and it is here where it truly resonates, showing us a modicum of hope where most would expect to find none.

here is the movie he made...

Yogi Bear Parody: "Booboo Kills Yogi" ending

I am not sure how this guy is getting away with doing this but... animator Edmund Earle, working in his spare time over the course of two months, put together this alternate ending to the upcoming live-action/CGI-hybrid adaptation of The Yogi Bear Show.

**This is an independently made parody with no association to Warner Brothers or the producers and actors of the 2010 "Yogi Bear" film. This is a parody meant for adult viewing only as it may be disturbing to children.
