Artists...Think before you speak!

I like to keep this blog very positive and talk about what is so great about working in animation...but I was reminded yesterday of how some people will always be negative.

If you are reading this and you are about to run your mouth in a room full of people (especially people who have been working in animation for many years), please think twice. You words will echo on the walls and into your future career.

A friend of mine told me his theory on why people in animation seem to find it easy to say things that are completely out of line and attack one another:

"...because artists don't function well in a corporate world and scientists and artists don't get along. Cain and Abel."

I agree. The key word here is RESPECT. Every single part of what we do from the tracker, to the FX TD, to the tools guy, to the animator is a difficult task. No one particular part of the pie is more difficult or easier, each task has its own set of problems to solve. Save your opinions about how you could do a better job in half the time for the dinner table at home, where senior people cannot hear you.

Rant off.
