Angie here. Okay, I am gonna be a total "fan girl," so beware. I am working at Jim Henson Creature Shop in Hollywood these days and although I am bound by very strict NDA's to not discuss about anything I am working on, I had to at least share an experience I had today that is outside of that realm.
First, a little background. Henson studios are located on a very famous lot of buildings that Charlie Chaplin built. The historic Charlie Chaplin Studios is a five-acre property in Hollywood. The buildings have so much history its just nuts to be able to walks around a mixture of Charlie Chaplin and muppet paraphernalia. A guy even stopped me on my way back from getting coffee as I walked on, begging to see the lot cuz he was a "big Chaplin fan" in a very thick english accent...but I got no pull, its like my second day. Sheesh!
So later in the day, I needed a pad of paper and was taken back to the Creature shop in the back of the lot to get it. The shop looks like some crazy big barn. And there, just inside standing on a table - OMG, stood a skeksis from the Dark Crystal. Now to some...this might not mean anything, but to me this was childhood come to life. It was beautiful and so old! It was the one on the right in the image below. The full puppet! It was brreathtaking in person and looked like it might come to life.
There is talk of a sequel to be called The Power of the Dark Crystal, which I wasn't even aware of until someone recently. The original art wass by Brian Froud and they have him again for the sequel! As you can imagine I am also a BIG fan of his faeries and trolls and all of his fantatsy art.
I can't wait.
